In 1760, a farmer named John Player, of Stoke Gifford near Bristol, extended his activities to include the surveying of land for the purpose of mapping, then a relatively crude science, but increasingly important as the enclosure of common land progressed in the early nineteenth century. His business formed the original precursor of
King Sturge. Player’s new direction proved rewarding and he was joined in 1772 by his nephew Jacob Sturge. King & Co, founded in 1920 by Herbert James King, became the leading industrial property firm in the 20th century, acting for developers, investors, owners and occupiers. In 1992 King Sturge resulted from the merger of the two firms which created a whole far greater than the sum of the parts.
We are very proud of our heritage but rather than 2010 purely being a celebration of the historical fact of our 250th anniversary, we see 2010 as an opportunity to link the celebrations with a charity appeal. The 1760 charity appeal will enable us to engage far more with the property industry as a whole, with our clients, and with our staff throughout all our offices, than a year simply dedicated to celebration ever could.
Join us in our celebration, but more importantly help us to make the 1760 charity appeal a success so we can make a real difference in 2010, and beyond.
